This article is about equipment that breaks upon dying in PK Mode. For equipment that breaks when its durability reaches 0, see Durability. |
Shattered Gear is a state where equipment breaks upon dying in PK Mode combat. It is a different system to durability and repairing equipment. Equipment is susceptible to shattering in PK Mode even when Safety Lock is activated, and is designed to penalize players participating in PK. It especially penalizes players who use Safety Lock to prevent them from dropping items, as they have a higher chance of their equipment shattering.
The type of equipment that can shatter are weapons, armor, ornaments, aerogear, and tomes. Having Guardian Scrolls in your inventory will prevent equipment from shattering.
Overview[ | ]
When a piece of equipment shatters, the following text will appear in your chat box:
Your [piece of equipment] has been shattered! [Chi Stones] fell out of it; there are [number] of them.
Chi Stones of a certain type and amount will drop; the type and amount varies with each piece of equipment and usually depends on its grade and rarity. Chi Stones can only initially be picked up by the player that killed you.
Equipment that has been shattered cannot be worn, and you will not benefit from any of the base or enhanced stats. It will be unusable; you cannot fly with shattered aerogear, and you may not be able to cast skills if you have a shattered weapon. It will also reduce Set Bonuses if the piece of equipment is part of one.
Hovering over the piece of equipment will show in red that it has been shattered and includes the type and amount of Chi Stones required to repair it.
Repairing Shattered Equipment[ | ]
Repairing shattered equipment is different to repairing equipment that breaks through durability loss; you cannot repair shattered equipment in an NPC's shop. Equipment that is simply broken will show the durability in red when hovering over it.
Shattered equipment can be repaired at any Blacksmith, Tailor, or Craftsman. Selecting the Repair Shattered Gear option will bring up a window with two item slots. Inserting your shattered equipment into the top item slot will show the type and amount of Chi Stones required to repair it.
The amount of Chi Stones required to repair your shattered equipment is 120% of the amount of Chi Stones that dropped when it shattered, rounded up. For example, if you dropped 10 Chi Stones, then 12 Chi Stones are required to repair the shattered equipment. The type of Chi Stones required to repair your shattered equipment will be the same as the ones that dropped when it shattered.
Most higher level equipment will require Mirage Celestones to repair. Lower level equipment will require other Chi Stones to repair, which are typically only found through decomposing other equipment. Alternatively, some types of Chi Stones can be acquired through the Snowmen that appear in major cities in December for Christmas.
Odds of Shattering[ | ]
Only equipment that is worn is subject to shattering. Only one piece will shatter at a time, and the one that shatters is random. The odds of a piece of equipment shattering depends on whether the player has Safety Lock on or not:
Infamy | Safety Lock On | Safety Lock Off |
---|---|---|
White/Pink | 1% | 0% |
Light Red | 2% | 1% |
Red | 3% | 2% |
Dark Red | 4% | 3% |
Note that players are also subject to dropping items unless they have Guardian Scrolls in their inventory, which also prevents equipment from shattering. This applies regardless of whether you have Safety Lock on or not.
